And I’d like to take a minute just sit right there… I’ll tell you all about how I had the biggest mom fails of the year! (shout out to Fresh Prince).
MOM FAILS are the best because truth is we all do it. We all try to pretend we didn’t do it and then BAM we do it again. I used to get really stressed out by all the things I would do wrong. I would sit there judging myself like, “You really sure you were cut out to be a mom? Tina from across the street would never forget show and tell, or send her kid to school with mismatched shoes, or forget to buckle the car seat in”.
Thoughts like these would be overwhelming at times, until my grandma who we lived by us at the time put it into perspective or me. She said, “I had ten children and if you think for one minute I let small “funny” mistakes stop me from continuing to be a good mom then, I wouldn’t have been able to do it. We get too hung up and being perfect that we forget that these moments are now apart of their story. You are helping create beautiful memories and not one part of you should be ashamed of that.”
So on that note I thought it would be fun to share some of my less than glamorous moments in hopes that everyone can take a minute and reflect on their own life or mistakes and just laugh at themselves. Laughter is the best medicine and a happy home is in my opinion is far more appealing than a perfect one.
Fail #1
I was in college right after I had my first baby. I was sitting in class and I must have thought I was too cool or something and was like, “OK, I gotta wear a pad in-between my legs for weeks and now they want me to wear one on each boob?? NO THANK YOU!”
So, here I was no breast pads sitting in criminal justice class about to give a short presentation and the sensation hits…
Holy Flip I’m expressing milk right the freak NOW! I look down to see two giant, wet circles on my boobs and it didn’t help that I wore a coral, form fitted T-shirt… Professor calls my name and I’m like welp taking my book up with me and hugging it so dang tight to my DD’s right about now.
Worst part was I had to point at the projector behind me and do the whole “As you can see right here” with my freakin ELBOWS. Just a lot of confused faces from my fellow peers BUT, still got an A though!
Fail #2
We were sleeping cozy in bed (we co-sleep) in fact we slept in until like 10 AM. Later that day I was scrolling through my emails and saw, “Ella Moala was marked absent today” blah blah blah. (my heart stopped, you know that feeling of falling.. YUP, that was me) OMG we missed the first
day of first grade What??? “SUMMER FOREVER”.
Fail #3
It was my daughters dance performance at her studio and sure enough I had to work that morning (so already a fail). My husband had a short day that day and, was in charge of getting her there. I already knew it would be a less than stellar appearance due to the fact his ponytail skills were atrocious but, you do what you gotta do. My phone rang and it was the hubby so I answered and said, “Is everything ok?” he replied, “Brittainy I’m so embarrassed everyone was there with all black uniforms and I showed up with Shia (our daughter) in a hot pink zebra outfit and a big flashy bow in her hair.” This was a small performance that they do in their classroom but still- everyone else in black and then there was our kid “doing the most” EMBARRASSING thing.. Good thing I had work! But, the worst part about was that I am a dance teacher at this studio and I still had NO CLUE what the appropriate dress code for the day was!
Fail on all levels.
So, what are some of your mom fails? Take a minute to just reflect and laugh a little. Even if at the time you felt like “the worst ever” because, truth is even though we’re superhuman- we still HUMAN!
Love,
The mom who buys store bought brownies, puts them on my own plate and passes them off as my own.
