“ Imagination is the first instinct of the awakening mind”
When you’re a special needs parent you go through so many parental trainings! You are given techniques to use for behavior management, for eating, sharing, talking, play time, bedtime, for transitions through out the day, etc… everything that should come so naturally and easily to a child is taught daily to someone with special needs.
One thing we focus on in therapies and at home is developing the imagination through imaginative play. This has taught me how vital our imagination is for children and adults and how dreaming leads to such a successful life!
The one thing we all have in common is the ability to use our imagination. We ALL have one! But how often do we exercise that ability and expand our minds? It wasn’t until I had to practice this technique everyday with my three old that I gave it much thought. His development is forcing me out of my comfort zone and we are continuously growing and learning together! Through this process I’ve learned Our imagination helps us reach higher goals and makes new heights possible. What are you doing to awaken your heart, soul, and mind?
Here are a few things you can try:
In my free time I LOVE practicing meditation.
In our home we have a few minutes of quite time where my toddler and I are separated. We both have a safe quite space where we can relax, open our minds to all possibilities, and breathe.I love creating a calm, welcoming environment through meditation music, aromatherapy humidifiers, and having dem lights on. This FEEDS my soul and my little guys! ❤️ meditation helps you gain a sense of self and can help with inspiration.
Reading creative literature.
Fictional books are so great for the mind! Reading allows you to dream, think of different scenarios, and it lets your mind enter into a world full of different possibilities.
Play. You can play board games, card games, video games, have all the tea parties with your little girl, or crash all the cars with your little boy! This can definitely help you down the path of imagination and depending on the game it can teach a lot of life skills! 😉
Create.Tap into your potential and create something. My husband always knows I’m on the brink of something when I’m up past 1am researching, writing, developing, and putting all my knowledge into creating a project. Gain a motivation to explore your potential further. Drive your imagination so you can reach great heights!
Write. As a writer there is nothing greater than writing and doodling random thoughts and words! I have so many notes on my phone that don’t make sense but the moment I sit down inspiration sparks and it all comes together! Let your knowledge, experiences, and feelings flow through you and on to paper! Open yourself up mentally, emotionally, and spiritually so you can imagine and create greatness! It’s such a rewarding feeling when you see scrambled words take form!
These are just a few things you could practice and what have helped me and my little boy! Apply yourself and allow your mind to develop!
When you’re a child play and imagination are the core of learning. Children are constantly delving into the mysteries of the universe and the unknown through reading, writing, playing, always asking questions, and constantly being curious and eager to create.
When you have a child with Autism it is so easy for them to get caught up in repetion, things needing to be a certain way, and making very logical decisions. Through imaginative play we are able to interrupt that pattern and create a new thought process allowing them to tap into their imagination and expand their minds. It helps them understand that one thing can serve multiple purposes. My little boy loves structuring and building when playing. When he picks up his blocks or legos he creates something new every time. Seeing something take shape even as he’s contemplating his next step is heady. He is awakening his mind, allowing knowledge, and creativity to flow through!
Imagination is the door to all possibilities. It is where creativity, ingenuity, and thinking outside the box begin.
Awake your mind and allow yourself to dream! Transform your life by living through your imagination and making it a possibility. Speak life and joy into your life! Manifest greatness and watch it come to life! ❤️ our children learn from us and the resources we supply to them! What are you doing to develop your and your child’s imagination? What will you succeed this year through dreaming?
