I bet you had no idea I would be talking on this subject did ya? Kidding kidding. Based on my bio and the title of this post, it was easy to determine. (Speaking of which I got the title from one of my favorite books, I hope you’ll go look it up and read it. It’s life changing )
Dermatologists state that cleansing is the most important part of a skincare regimen, but now there’s visual proof. Scientists at the University of California, San Diego, recently presented a series of 3-D images that revealed the thousands of microbial communities your skin plays host to every day. (see HERE) This is the first time that the bacteria and molecules on the skin have been mapped out in such detail, I had no idea they could even do something like this! Until now, little has been understood about the skin’s microbial ecosystem, and researchers are hoping future studies will further reveal the skin’s role in health and disease. The map also revealed that every person has a unique skin composition that’s affected by the food they eat, the medicine they take and the personal care products they use. Take a look at the maps yourself. Seeing the maps lit up with bacteria is a great reminder that our skin can benefit from adding a deep-cleansing treatment to our daily regimen. To purge pores of dead cells, dirt and debris and minimize breakout-inducing excess bacteria.
Another reason daily cleansing is a must to maintain healthy skin is that toxins are not something you can just rid yourself of by “ sweating it out” because sweat is 99 percent water. Leave that job to your kidneys and liver. It’s a dirty truth: Pollution left on the face can ultimately produce free radicals and cause oxidative stress which, you guessed it, ages your skin. Did you also know that sleeping with your make-up on at night ages you 7 times faster? Yep 7 times! Too draw out these impurities and leave skin smoother, our kaolin clay-based Redefine cleansing Mask is a key first step in my go to Redefine Regimen.
I use a regimen that has 4 steps in it, but I start with a step that is not in my regimen. Did you know that you should cleanse your face first of make-up and then apply your main cleanser from your regimen? I know this sounds backwards. The first time I was taught this in school I questioned my instructor. (If you don’t wear make-up then you can skip that step) If a wash does what it was made to do, it will pull the Toxins and Pollutions out of your skin, open up the pores, and clean the dead skin, dirt, and bacteria away from your face. When picking a cleanser bubbles and foam are BAD! They destroy the delicate lipid barrier of the skin and ruin the skins natural moisture process. Example would be, if you have oily skin, it will become more oily. If you have dry skin, it will become more dry. When rinsing make sure that your water is not cold, or hot. Luke warm water is the best, too warm and too cold can be irritating to your skin. One of my favorite cleansers to use to take off my make-up is the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water. You can snag this at most of your local stores or HERE. Its in-expensive and lasts me awhile. Redefine, or our other regimens can be purchased through my site, or your local Rodan and Fields girl. Please let me know if you have any questions on what Regimen would be right for you or other skin care questions that might come up.
So excited to be on here and I hope that this post was helpful. Next week I’ll be switching gears a little and sharing how I became a surrogate. Until then, happy cleansing!
