As long as I can remember, I have always wanted to get out of the house. Whenever my Mom or Dad would go somewhere (anywhere really: the gas station, grocery store, bank, etc.), I always wanted to go with them. I have not been a homebody since I was a little girl, so life right now has me a little stir crazy. You too??
Well, tomorrow is Earth Day, and I have some ideas for you and your kids to get out of the house (and even a few to do at home) and celebrate Earth Day!
Go on a walk. Get outside and enjoy nature. It will do you good to breathe some fresh air. For me, being outside is like a recharge button.
A game we love playing on our walks is “I Spy”. It helps your kids learn colors, become aware of their surroundings, and is a fun and easy game with no prep!
Go on a scavenger hunt. This may take a little bit of prep to think of some things in your neighborhood ahead of time, but some common things you may see are birds, dogs, mail boxes, bikes, trucks, and cars. You can even be more specific by using colors (i.e. a purple bike, a blue mailbox).
Go on a rock hunt. Have your kids pick a few and take them home for more activities.
At home you can have them wash the rocks in soapy water. My toddler boys stayed entertained with this for over a half hour! (and for my 1.5 and 2.5 year old, that’s a really long time!)
After they’ve been washed, you have another activity you can do with the rocks: paint them!
After they’ve been painted you can put them along a walking path so others can find some beautiful rocks on their walk!
Clean up trash. I don’t know about you, but on the road heading out to my house I see lots of garbage. Grab a garbage bag and some gloves. I did this and had my toddlers with me, but instead of having them help me, I buckled them in my stroller and parked and locked the stroller so they were safe from any danger.
Plant some seeds. Flowers or vegetables! Kids can get so much satisfaction from planting seeds and watching them grow. My 2 year old asks me almost every day if he can water the dirt and see the seeds grow.
Pull some weeds for an elderly neighbor. Or really any neighbor, because who would turn down that offer!
I would love to see your fun activities for Earth Day, so tag @lovinlikeamom on Instagram.
Happy Earth Day!
