I’m a redhead, and that means my little eyelashes are red and blonde. I have hated this for as long as I can remember! I was so jealous of girls who had dark, thick lashes. In junior high or high school if I wasn’t wearing mascara, people would ask me if I was OK, if I was sick, etc. I couldn’t stand it!
I hated caking on mascara and eyeliner to go anywhere. I wanted to be spontaneous and just live my life makeup free, but I hated how my little blonde lashes looked like they weren’t there at all. Going swimming was always a nightmare, going to the gym made me self-conscious. As time went on, I got more comfortable with my natural lashes and stopped caring about what people thought, but I still dreamed of finding a way that I could have the dark lashes I wanted.
Then, I discovered eyelash extensions. And, not to be dramatic, but they have changed my life! Every single day I love them even more.
Eyelash extensions are simply a single false eyelash or eyelash fan that is glued to one of your individual eyelashes with semi-permanent glue. You can choose from classic lashes—which are a single eyelash strand connected to one of your eyelashes, volume lashes—which use a fan of eyelashes to connect to a single one of your lashes, or hybrid—which is a mix of classic and volume eyelashes.
You’ll begin your eyelash extensions by getting what is called a “full set.” This means you have no lash extensions, so you’ll need all of your eyelashes to be worked on. Full sets tend to take 2-3 hours, and are more expensive than fills.
Every 2-3 weeks you’ll get your eyelash extensions filled—meaning your eyelash artist will add new lashes where they are missing. Our eyelashes, like hair, naturally fall out as part of their lifecycle. When your eyelashes fall out, your extension comes out with it. A fill is where your lash artist adds new fake eyelashes to your new growth.
I talk to so many girls who are on the fence about getting eyelash extensions. They’re worried about the cost, if it’s worth it, if they will like them, etc. This is your complete guide to all the big reasons why you need to give eyelash extensions a try!
BYE-BYE MAKEUP. As a girl with little blondie lashes, I felt like I had to at least put on mascara every, single, solitary day. BYE-BYE MASCARA! I haven’t bought a tube of mascara or eyeliner in YEARS and it is so freeing! I don’t have to spend time in front of the car mirror swiping on mascara, getting clumps, and hating the results. I always have dark, luscious lashes ready to go. I wake up in the morning and BOOM. I’m ready. I can go makeup free no problem and still feel so put together. I jump in the pool, and I don’t have to worry about dark circles under my eyes. When I cry in a movie, or as just part of the normal life of a mom, no big black smears to stress about. Not having to worry about eye makeup is seriously one of the best parts of lash extensions. It saves me insane amounts of time and worry, and honestly I couldn’t be happier about that.
So if you’re considering eyelash extensions, take this as my 100% endorsement that you should get them! Do your research, find a lash artist that is qualified and safe, and get going with your new lashes. You may not have realized it, but a little thing like eyelashes can go a long way in transforming how you feel about yourself. Wake up ready to take on the day!
