I am going to list 13 of my top hair hacks that I’ve figured out through trial and error, talking with fellow stylists, working in a beauty supply, and things I’ve found to work with my past clients, but not in any specific order.
- Use your dry shampoo the night before! I can’t even begin to explain how excited I was when I finally figured this out. I have dark hair and really struggle with dry shampoo because they all tend to leave a white residue on my hair. I have found a dry shampoo that doesn’t do that as well as finally figuring out that if I put it on at night, then it has a chance to actually do its job.
- Switch to a sati or silk pillowcase. This will prevent tangles which in turn will help prevent split ends. This allows your hair to slide over the pillowcase, but if you cant stand the thought of a silk or satin pillowcase then go with a top knot.
- If you’re looking for some serious volume and root lift, apply mousse to dry hair and then blow dry.
- To avoid having to curl your hair for what feels like a bajillion years, use a small-barreled curling iron and wrap bigger chunks of hair around it.
- This one has to be one of my favorite hacks, first off 99% of you are using your bobby pins wrong, the squiggly side should be facing down towards your scalp. Spray them with hair spray and let air dry for ten seconds then slide that baby in. Game changer
- When showering wash your hair with warm water to remove product build up and dirt. At the end, rinse with cool water to add shine, seal in moisture, and prevent frizz. Cold water seals your hair cuticle, hot water opens it up.
- Thin hair? Breathe new life into thin or fine hair by switching up your part. Seriously, it changes everything. I move my part back and forth most days to fake some more volume and thickness. 8. Spray your favorite perfume onto your hair brush to make your hair smell uber delicious! And if you have static issues, spray your brush with hair spray then comb that sucker through those unruly locks.
- Apply conditioner to your hair BEFORE you get in, then cover with a shower cap. Wash your body first, and let the heat from the shower provide a nice deep conditioning treatment to your hair.
- Don’t apply conditioner to your scalp!!! I could not stress this more, unless you have unreal thick hair, then avoid it. Your scalp produces enough oil to condition your roots to mid shaft. You really only need conditioner on the last half of your hair. Conditioner will only weigh down your hair and cause it to be more oily.
- Curly hair? Don’t apply shampoo to the length of your hair, only your scalp. This will prevent frizz. Can I get a hallelujah!!
- Want to use mousse for volume but hate the crunchy feeling? Squeeze about a golf ball-sized amount into your palm, then take a comb and gently run it through the product to get some on the bristles. Comb through your damp hair, starting at about mid length, right through the roots. This will give you volume without that crunchy feeling.
- Last but not least, I wanted to talk about this one last. I average 7-12 days between washes. I am sure some of you are pretty grossed out right now. When I tell people this, they are always flabbergasted. My hair never looks greasy or nasty. In high school I would have died, I washed my hair every single day. Every day. I’ve had people tell me there’s no way because their hair is too oily. I have good news, you can train your hair! I promise, based on my own experience as well as helping clients and friends, it’s possible. Over washing ends up producing more oil. How can hair get more oily from trying to keep it clean? Heres the thing: Once you strip your hair of its natural oils, the scalp goes into oil production overload, undoing everything you’re trying to combat. So how can you train your hair to be less oily? It’s all about spacing out your washes. Sure, the first few weeks of your new hair training regimen will be hard, especially because the oiliness wont stop right away, but I promise you’ll think it was worth it once you start seeing results.
- I am throwing in one more for a bonus. I get asked a lot about where I get my hair styles and hair styles for my girls. Being a mom to three girls makes for a lot of hair, especially on Sunday before church. I want to share with you two moms who I follow on IG that make the process of doing time saving, cute hair styles, so simple. I promise you that you’ll want to follow them – @twistmepretty and @anniesforgetmeknots are amazing!

I have a load of products that I love and want to share with you all, but I will save that for another time.
